Skila Expert Featured in PharmaVoice Article: A 360-Degree View of e-Patient Connections

Morris Plains, NJ, February 9, 2010 – Skila’s Susan Dorfman, Vice President of Global Marketing, Product Strategy and Alliances recently shared her insights on e-patient connections in the February 2010 edition of PharmaVoice. The article entitled A 360-Degree View of e-Patient Connections, features several thought leaders discussing the implications of healthcare information technology and the development of a platform for the exchange, collection and documentation of health data and information. In particular the article points out that “crucial players – patients, physicians, pharmaceutical companies and service providers” – need to unite and collaborate towards common goals for e-connections to be successful. Ms. Dorfman recently completed a research study with thought leading physicians, indentifying the implications of web-based health assessment tools on consumer behaviors and health outcomes. The study uncovered that while health information sites can put consumers at risk as a result of misleading or inaccurate information, there is a common misperception that such tools negatively impacted the physician/patient relationship. However, panelists in the study strongly agreed that informed consumers make more powerful partners for their physicians to collaborate with. The study concluded that physicians largely supported web-based interactions and believed that patients can benefit, providing insights on better ways to manage information and collaboration to avoid a breakdown in the patient/physician relationship.
